Overview
Students will be assigned a Chromebook device for their use in school until the end of the school year or withdrawal from the district. In addition to the terms of this agreement, please review all relevant Board of Education Policies (such as Policy 7520 and Policy 2361), then sign and return this agreement to acknowledge your acceptance of all stipulations. Please keep in mind that only district-issued devices will be allowed to be used in school.
Educational Goals and Vision:
The purpose of a 1:1 Chromebook initiative is to accomplish the following:
Provide students with on-demand Internet access
Comply with the expectations of Future Ready and Common Core Standards
Allow students to enhance their educational experience through the use of digital resources
Encourage student self-development of knowledge and ability at their preferred times
Conditions:
The Westwood Regional School District can and may monitor student Internet and email activity, as well as the contents of Google Drive documents. Students will be held accountable for inappropriate content and activity.
The Westwood Regional School District agrees to provide to the undersigned student an assigned Chromebook, to be taken from and returned to a designated cart each day.
The period of this loan extends to the end of the school year or upon withdrawal from the Westwood Regional School District.
The use of this device is subject to conformance with all terms in this contract, as well as any or all other district policies that may apply, with the understanding that the device belongs to the district and should be treated with the utmost care and responsibility at all times.
Expectations, Responsibilities, and Care:
District-provided devices are, at all times, the property of the District. Student/Parent/Guardian liability for any damage or loss to the equipment is covered in the terms of this agreement and applicable Board policies.
Some guidelines for proper use include, but are not limited to, the following:
The student should place the device in its designated cart and plug in the power cord at the end of each school day.
The device should not be defaced with stickers, writing, or anything altering its appearance.
The student must take reasonable measures to protect the device from damage, loss, or theft.
At no time shall the device be used for unlawful or inappropriate activities.
The device is not to be shared with or used by others.
Cords, cables, and removable storage devices must be inserted and removed carefully.
The device’s sensitive screen must not be touched by fingers, pens, pencils, or any other item.
The device should never be placed in a precarious position or location.
No food or drink shall be permitted to spill onto the screen or keyboard of the device.
FAQs, Proper Use guidelines, and other pertinent information on the 1:1 Portal should be reviewed and followed to avoid improper care and use of your Chromebook.
School Administration and Faculty have the right to view the contents of the device at any time for any reason.
Policy/Procedure Violations:
Violations of the Acceptable Use Policy and/or the conditions outlined herein, with respect to the issued device, will be addressed by the school administration according to school discipline policy.
Reporting Damage, Loss, or Theft:
If the issued device is damaged, lost, or stolen, a Chromebook Incident Workorder must be submitted, thereby notifying the school administration of the situation. The incident will then be addressed in accordance with school and district policies. If damage or loss is determined to have been the result of negligence or intentional abuse, reimbursement from the family for the cost of repair or replacement may be sought.
If a parent is responsible for covering the cost of damage, fines will be issued in accordance with the following scale:
Replacement Charger: $30
Level I Damage: $50 - Camera, Bezel, Keyboard, Bottom Cover, Touchpad, Top Cover, Palmrest, LCD Screen, etc.
Level II Damage: $100 - Multiple Level I Damages
Level III Damage: $150 - Liquid or Internal Damages
Replacement Device: $200
Technology fees may be waived for families who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Please reach out to your child’s building principal if there is any financial hardship. Technology fees can be paid online through PaySchoolsCentral or via check/cash.
Whenever an incident of damage or loss is determined to have resulted from negligence or intent, the student will be responsible for full reimbursement to the district for the cost of repair or replacement.
