Course Description
Painting I
Painting I is an exploration of various painting mediums, with a focus on techniques essential to successful painting. Emphasis is placed on developing a strong sense of color, a variety of brush techniques, and composition. Students work from observation and historical references.
Painting II
Emphasis is placed on an exploration of various styles of painting including observational and abstraction. As skills increase, focus shifts to distortion of imagery and the creative process. Students will be encouraged to pursue their own artistic vision through projects, critiques, and portfolio development.
Painting III
Emphasis is placed on independent thinking and developing series of paintings. Students will select painting mediums and techniques to use. They will maintain visual journals with extensive research and reflection.

Supplies
You need to purchase a MIXED MEDIA SKETCHBOOK. Please select a sketchbook with the following product specs:
Size 8 X 10, 9 X 12, or 11 X 14
Mixed Media or Watercolor (recommended for watercolor and other mediums)
Paper Weight 90 lb or heavier
Number of pages 40-60 pages is ideal. If you run out of pages before the end of the year, you will need a 2nd book)
Wire Bound on top or side (no pads that are taped on the top)
Paper texture - rough or smooth (it depends on your preference)
