The Memory Project
By Mia Kramer
By Bianca Wertheimer
By Analisa Bonizzi
Students in the Honors and AP Studio Art Classes created portraits of Syrian children living in refugee camps. These portraits will be delivered to the children as a message of kindness and hope. Our students participated in the Memory Project to help bring awareness to the situation in Syria and to bring a smile to a child's face.
The Syrian conflict is one of the worst humanitarian conflicts of our times. Due to civil war, millions of people have fled their homes with nowhere to go. The images in this slideshow represent the millions of innocent children growing up in refugee camps, trying to remain hopeful for a better day.

Cards for a Cause
2018/2019 AP with WE Project
AP 2D design students, Analisa, Joanne, and Katie are using their artwork to make a difference. They are creating inspirational images and turning them into small trading cards and magnets to sell, raising money for various charities.
Cards are available for purchase at various school events or contact Mrs. Duffus at pamela.duffus@wwrsd.org
Home and Displacement
During the 2017-2018 School year, AP Studio Art classes engaged in an interdisciplinary study of Human Migration, Art, and Action with Marie Spiegeland's Filmmaking & Advanced TV classes and Kelly Morrison's Human Rights & Genocide classes. Students had the opportunity visit NYC during Ai Weiwei's Good Fences Make Good Neighbors public works exhibit and respond to his work. Visit the Home and Displacement Website for more information.

*What Is Service Learning?
https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/collaborations-with-ap/ap-we-service
Service learning is an academic pedagogy distinct from volunteering or participating in community service. While service learning does involve performing service, it is based on a structured academic foundation. To learn more about the impacts of service learning, see At A Glance: What We Know about The Effects of Service-Learning on College Students, Faculty, Institutions and Communities, 1993-2000: Third Edition(.pdf/265KB) , a compilation of research by faculty at Vanderbilt University.
Students who participate in service learning within the WE framework apply their academic learning to real-life settings and situations by being active in meaningful community-based service. In addition, they work on problems that make academic learning relevant while enhancing their leadership and social skills, analytic ability, and civic responsibility.
