Picture of the word "GOALS"

I think it is especially important to set goals and objectives together as a class. These goals and objectives can be both long term and short term as well as personal and class-wide. During the school year, students will have various opportunities to set and reach goals.

*At the beginning of the year students will write their 3rd grade goal. I encourage students to think of a specific skill that they would like to master during the school year. These 3rd grade goals can be anything from learning how to multiply 2-digit numbers, to learning how to better comprehend a chapter book! We will also work together to set big goals for our class as a whole.

*At the start of each lesson, I will write the big goal (or objective) on the board. This goal will help guide students as they engage in the lesson and activities. This also helps students take ownership of their learning - they know the expectations that have been set!

*The following are BIG GOALS for some of our subjects:

-Reading - Students will develop an appreciation for books and read with both fluency and comprehension.

-Writing - Students will understand the importance of the writing process and know that this will ultimately help them to become life-long writers.

-Mathematics - Students will engage in multiple hands-on lessons and activities and apply new information to real-life situations.
