Surah Al-Ma’un was revealed about those who lacked true faith. The first half describes the disbelievers who deny the Day of Judgment and, as a result, become hard-hearted toward orphans/needy. This surah showed that the Prophet’s ﷺ mission was complete, so he increased in prayer and repentance.
Main Takeaway:
When Allah gives us success, we should stay humble, thank Him, and seek His forgiveness.
Surah Kaafirun:
The disbelievers wanted to stop the spread of Islam and try to compromise with the Prophet ﷺ. The deal was that they schedule days where everyone would worship Allah on some days, and worship the idols the other days. Obviously, it was not the intention of the kuffar to actually worship Allah, they just wanted to silence the Prophet ﷺ without intense conflict. This week we had an assessment on Surah Fatihah, went over Surah Nas and Surah Falaq, and started writing down important Quranic words from these surahs on notecards.
Seerah Story
A Jewish man cast a magic spell (sihr) on the Prophet ﷺ. The spell was done using a comb and some hair from the Prophet ﷺ, which were tied in knots and placed inside a well. This magic caused the Prophet ﷺ to feel unwell for a period of time. Allah revealed Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas (together called al-Mu‘awwidhatayn - the two surahs of seeking refuge). The Prophet ﷺ recited them until he was completely cured and the magic was removed. These surahs teach us to turn to Allah for protection from all harm - seen or unseen.
