Literacy

Our school requires a literacy program in every class. We are required to turn in a Contructed Response every semester.  The link below is an example our literacy program. Although it is dated in 2018-2019 it acurately reflects what we continue to do to date.

Literacy Team Slide Presentation

In our program we select an article that is related to Criminal Justice.  See the example below including the handouts for the article, Structure for the constructed response as well as the rubric. We will read the article together and assist those English Learners with further instruction.

Example:

Article -Look, up in the sky! It's the LAPD helicopter telling crooks "good bye".

By Tribune Content Agency, adapted for Newsela on 3/15/15

Directions:

According to the article, “ Los Angeles police helicopters are stopping crimes before they start.” After reading the article, what information supports this statement? Cite evidence to support your answer by listing three details from the article. Please see the attached sheet titled, Structure for Constructed Response. This will help you construct your response.

Write the response in paragraph form. It should be typed using Google Docs and submitted in Google Classroom as directed. The title should be LAPD Helicopters. Please write this in MLA Format. There is an attached rubric indicating how you will be graded for a possible total of 25 points.
