Instruction must be systematic and reflect the program goals. Marketing and recruitment are critical to program strength and viability. Policies for managing resources and budgets are crucial to good stewardship
Mission of the Washingtn Unified School District
We at Washington Union truly believe rigor, relevance, and relationships are the cornerstones of a quality comprehensive high school education. To support that, we will provide students the opportunity to participate in a Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway. Students will build strong relationships with their teacher and cohorted students. Furthermore, by working in a CTE Pathway, students will participate in relevant learning experiences that will prepare them for college and/or a career.
WUHS Law and Justice Institute Mission Statement
The Washington Union High School Law & Justice Institute seeks to create a Challenging Learning environment that holds high expectations for success where students are empowered through instruction that supports individual differences and learning styles. Students will receive training in the academic and professional skills needed to succeed in the Law and Justice field.
The Law and Justice Institute at Washington Union High School falls in line with all three Mission Statements of our school, CTE program and district. We make connections with our students by mentoring them in their studies and social life. Our Pathway program include rigorous and relevent curriculum in the subject matter. They are taught the Professional skills in the area of Criminal Justice in preparation for a career in the future.

1 Year Goal
Our goal for the next year is to enroll students into the Skills USA program. We believe that the students need to be more involved in competitions to enhance the skills that they have learned. It will also help with team work among the students.
We also believe we need to start a community relations plan to increase our community support.
3 Year Goal
Our Goal is to increase the enrollment of our institute by increasing our second instructors courses. We would like to add different disciplines in the area of Law Enforcement. The ever changing technology as well as the way law enforcement does business, calls for a need to add new courses as well as make adjustments to the curriculum.
Long Term Goals
A long term goal would be to collaborate closely with local law enforcement agencies to develop a pipeline to them. Another goal is to enhance the program be developing an academy style course for those interested.

Currently our school has a CTE pathway course requirement. We do not select which students enroll in our freshman pathway. However, they are evaluated during the first year. If they do not fit in the program we suggest them to try another CTE program that fits them. We then evaluate new prospective students that are sophomores to fill the open slots in the pathway.
Our promotions include the 8th grade orientation. Students from our feeder schools come to WUHS to view the campus and all programs at our school set up promotional booths and present to the incoming students.
Every year our administration staff and counseling staff meet incoming freshman at their schools. A select few of our students attend ths event and give a short presentation of our program.
We present fliers to the students during all promotions. The fliers describe our pathway and elective programs.
Currently both instructors teach a program called PIVOT. This teaches the 6th grade students to make right choices when confronted with certain situation in life. Because of this contact and mentoring of the students we promote our program with these students.
We also promote by selling t-shirts and sweatshirts during the school year to any students and staff. The more our programs logo and promotional logos get out there the more prospective students may peak interest in our program.
Website - We have a webpage on our WUHS website. It is maintained by district media staff. Mr Maynez inspects the website from time to time and suggests changes or additions to it from time to time.

We currently have Erika Ohanis a counselor assigned to our Law and Justice Institute. Mrs. Ohanis is actively involved in the program and is encouraged by our school administration to be involved in activities that the LJI is engage in. Mr. Maynez and Mrs. Ohanis are in constant contact with each other to ensure that students are keeping up their grades, behavior issues are delt with and also for the well being of our students.
The counseling department leads in the promotion of our program with the feeder schools. Mrs. Ohanis makes sure that our program enrollment is kept up to the levels that meets our program goals.

Our program budget is controlled at the district level. At the instructor level we are not made aware of exactly what the budget is. So we are unaware of the budgeting procedure details of our program. However, this is may in the future. Representative Instructors of our CTE program and WUHS administration as well as the WUSD level administrators have been discussing this recently and may be resolved in the future.
The decision for expenditures are made by the site principal and the district financial services department. A copy of program expenditures for last three years is at the district office. As mentioned before all district expenditure approvals and purchases are done by the district.
For more information on District expenditures please the district web page. the link is listed below.
https://www.washingtonunified.org/departments/business/
The general policy in place for expenditures at the district level is a District Requisition Form is complete. A quote will be attached to the request. It is then submitted to the High School Business Office. Which is then processed and must be approved by the principal before it is forwarded to the district business office. It is then approved by the district office. A copy of the PO is then returned to the instructor who in turn purchases the items. The bill is then forwarded to the district accounts payable office and the item is then paid for. On items purchased on Amazon, the district business office handles the purchase and payment after the initial request for purchase initiated by the teacher.
The written policy for the allocation and control of training equipment expenditures is the same as listed above.
