The Activity: Students look up current FIFA world rankings and recent match statistics to build their own group-stage tournament predictors. Instead of just guessing, they have to write a quick math-based rationale (e.g., "Team A has a higher win-percentage and scores an average of 1.8 goals per game compared to Team B's 1.2").
Students can enter their predictions here and watch the scores update across the bracket
Or print and have students fill out their predictions offline!
Jersey Design & Marketing Pitch
The Activity: Students choose a historical figure, a scientist, or a character from a novel read this year. They design a "Player Card" for them. Instead of athletic stats like Pace or Passing, they assign ratings (out of 99) for traits relevant to that person. For example, Percy Jackson might have Water Powers: 95 and Impulsiveness: 88. Abraham Lincoln might have Leadership: 96. Students must write a brief paragraph justifying their rating choices based on text or historical evidence.
FUT Card Example Idea:
Character: Macbeth
Stats: Ambition: 99 | Guilt: 92 | Loyalty: 12 | Paranoia: 95
Chemistry Style: Tragic Hero
Here are some Canva templates you can give students, or have them find their own to get started!!
With matches hosted across the US, Mexico, and Canada, fans from 48 different nations are traveling all over North America.
The Activity: Students claim one of the qualifying countries (e.g., Morocco, Japan, Colombia, Croatia). They act as a travel guide or a traveling fan, researching three cultural facts someone from that country would want to share (local foods, popular traditions, or native phrases).
Students can use Google Classroom recording features to quickly record from their device OR they can get fancy and create a video in Canva.
The Activity: Students act as graphic designers tasked with creating a new "Kit" (jersey) for a World Cup team or a fictional expansion team. The design must incorporate geometric elements (symmetry, tessellations, or specific angle types) and a color scheme that reflects the culture or geography of the team. They must write a 3-sentence "marketing pitch" explaining the engineering choices behind the fabric or design symbols.
Students can use the drawing and element tools in Canva to design their "kit"
