The WTEA Student Ambassador Program is an initiative set forth by Wisconsin's premiere Technology Education Association to inspire students to join the wonderful career of teaching Technology Education. The WTEA's Student Ambassador Program is designed to be a mentor-mentee program. Classroom teachers who recognize a student's potential in the field of Technology Education will support the student's path to becoming an educator.
Classroom instructors work day-in and day-out with students and can identify those few students who possess "The Gift" of teaching. Sometimes it is as easy as recognizing a student who has helped a classmate out on a math problem or showed another student how to use the laser engraver. These special students demonstrated the "knack for teaching". The WTEA has set up a structure to mentor those students and to expose them to an honorable career in Technology Education.
The first step is to reach out to that student and let them know that you noticed their inherent ability to work with their peers. Praise them for this ability, and let them know that you think that they have a future in teaching. Start the discussion with the student and see where it goes. If the student is interested and wants to learn more, enroll them into the WTEA Student Ambassador Program on this REGISTRATION PAGE.
Students enrolled in the WTEA's Student Ambassador Program will participate in a number of activities outlined by the WTEA. The activities will include: preparing and delivering class lessons, volunteering at various Student Competitions, or attending / assisting at other events across the state.
Students enrolled in the Program will visit the two premiere Technology Education training institutions; The University of Wisconsin--Platteville and The University of Wisconsin--Stout. During these visits, students will tour the campus, focusing on the Technology Education and Industrial Studies Departments. They will also sit in on a panel of currently enrolled Technology Education students and will have the opportunity to talk with counselors regarding admission to the institutions.
Teacher Mentors will aid students in the application process and admittance to the schools, along with assisting them on applying for various scholarship opportunities available to prospective Technology Education Majors.
Students who enroll in the WTEA's Student Ambassador Program will gain a leading edge on the path to a career in Technology Education. Establishing a strong rapport with a mentoring teacher and the WTEA will lay the foundation for a long and healthy career in teaching Technology Education.
