This page goes over my Independent study in Spanish. I will display a timeline and what I learned.
Work on Past Tense

Tutor session from Adv. Spanish Student
Future Tense
This block was originally set up to be a Flex Language course, but we shifted that into an Independent Study. The purpose of this course was to get ready to be in Advanced Spanish the next semester because a normal intermediate class was not offered. I met with the Spanish teacher around four times throughout the first semester; however, we meant to meet more times than that. An issue we faced was finding time to continuously meet each week because of sickness, assemblies, half days, and snow days. One thing I could've shifted was the day we met. We would meet on Fridays during ace, but Wednesdays or Thursdays probably would've worked better.
I practiced irregular verbs in the past tense (imperfect and pretérito)
I prepped for my intermediate Spanish interview and then took it
I got feedback on what I could do to better prep for Advanced Spanish
Overall, I didn't end up doing as much Spanish as planned, but I believe that I did, in fact, get the prep that I needed to join Advanced Spanish.
to observe a surgery
to scrub in
to do a square knot
to stitch a hollow grapefruit
to respectfully interact with patients
to have difficult conversations with patients
During the block I had for Spanish, every Tuesday or Friday, I took the initiative to go to my local hospital, BMH, and shadow the general surgeon onsite. Though It was during my Spanish block, I found it helping me gain insight in college. I originally set it up through a career fair and ended up going every week since Thanksgiving. I found that I may want to go into healthcare in my future and pursue a pre-med course in college. Shadowing also brought up some questions, though, like: What kind of work/life balance would make me happy? Are there other jobs that would be just as rewarding with less time commitment? Do I enjoy patient interaction as much as the science behind medicine?
