May 17-21
This week you will listen to different stories for all of our many studies. You will try to help plan our garden bed at school, learn how to star gaze and hear a Vietnamese Cinder story. Enjoy!

We are close to finishing up our Cinder Stories! Enjoy the new stories from Africa, China and India. We also have our first book to listen to about the moon!

We have three more Cinder stories from other parts of the world. I hope you are enjoying hearing all of the different versions as much as I enjoy sharing them. They are so interesting!
April 12-16
This week we begin to listen to Cinder Stories from around the world. We will try to notice what makes them similar and different, and what in the the stories is specific to their setting and culture. There is also a story to listen to for help with this weeks cooking challenge-we are trying to make a snack that includes all 5 parts of a plant!
April 5-9
This week we are branching out to include more than 1 fairytale story. Enjoy!
March 29-April 2
This week we are listening to different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. In all of the stories the main character goes on a journey, but it is slightly different! I also added an Easter story because Easter is on Sunday and I found a story by one of our favorite author's, Jan Brett!
March 22-26
This week we will read stories about the Three Little Pigs. Try to notice what is the same in all of them and what makes them different. Do you notice some of the elements of fairytales as you listen.
March 15-19
We will begin our study of Fairy Tales this week with 4 different Goldilocks and The Three Bears stories. Listen to the stories then watch the writing helper video. Writing Helper Video

Groundhog day is one of my favorite days. I always hope the groundhog sees his shadow. There are also 2 new Jan Brett stories, do you notice any similarities between either of these stories and the others we've already read?

We have three stories this week all about welcoming winter and enjoying the snow! We have some fun crafts, art projects, cooking challenges, writing activities and rhyming fun as well!

Thanksgiving Stories Listen to all three stories and then write about which one is your favorite in your journal, on the slides or record on Flipgrid! Look at the assignment on google classroom for the choices. Have fun!
November 16-20th Stories
Please listen to the stories-we have some great ones this week! There is also a writing assignment for first graders here, and a corresponding writing assignment in google classroom for second graders. I hope everyone tries to make a lantern for Diwali to bring some light into our nights!

Best Halloween Story Week of October 26-30th
Listen to all 4 stories this week. When you finish, write about which one was your favorite! You can write in your journal OR you can try to type your answer into the google slide shared with you on your grade levels google classroom, which you can access through Clever. There is a video with writing instructions that includes a quick tutorial for first graders to access the google classroom too!

This is a story about a seed who has been through a lot. The seed learns that no matter what we go through and what we've done, there's always time to make a change for the better!
October 15, 2020 I Really Like Slop
This is another story with our friends Gerald in Piggie. In this story Piggie shares an important part of pig culture-slop! To be a good friend Gerald needs to learn to be respectful of his friends interests AND try something new. I hope you love it as much as I do!

October 13, 2020 Do Unto Otters
This is another story about how to use the Golden Rule. The bunny in this story explores how he'd like to be treated which also helps him better understand how to treat others. Enjoy the story first, then watch the writing help video to use the worksheets in your week 5 packet!
October 8, 2020 Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book
This is a fun story about a book that actually comes to life when the teacher reads it to her students. I love to read and listen to books read to me and I often imagine my own pictures in my head. I would love to hear about a book that comes alive for you when you read it!

In this next story, Gerald needs to learn how to be patient and wait for something he is excited about. It isn't easy to wait, but sometimes it is worth it! This was a Gus pick and he helped me read the story to you. I cannot wait to see what you write about this story ;)

September 29, 2020 Read Aloud A Big Guy Took My Ball
In this story Piggie needs some help from her friend Gerald when an animal much larger than her comes along and takes her ball!
Everything turns out well in the end- but one of the characters was feeling left out of all of the fun. Have you ever felt left out or seen another student who is feeling left out of the fun? Did anyone help you to feel included, or did you help someone else to join the fun?

September 28, 2020 Read Aloud What Do You Do With a Problem?
This is a story by the same author and illustrator as What Do You Do With an Idea? When you have a problem how do you feel? Do you feel like the little boy in this story? The more you ignore a problem the bigger it feels! There are a lot of great ways to handle problems, What do you do when you have a problem? I will be checking in with groups each day to see who has listened to our story and then we will make a list together of our favorite ways to handle problems.

Have you ever gotten an idea that starts small but the more you think about it, it grows and refuses to stay out of your thoughts? Then you will relate to this story! When I get an idea if I don't write it down or try to do SOMETHING with it, it bothers me until I do. Extension: go to Online Dictionary type in the word courageous from the story. Write down what it means and how you will be a courageous student.
