For High School Students:

July 26, 27, 28; August 2, 3, 4 and 9, 10, 11

Join Shelburne Farms educators and a network of leaders in the field of sustainability for an exploration of the complexity of ecological-social systems and how people communicate to different audiences about topics such as climate change, food systems, and educating for a more just future. We’ll explore how the U.N Sustainable Development Goals emerge in communities and actions that are being taken to improve the quality of life in Vermont. You’ll work together to engage in a communications capstone project that reflects your curiosity and passion and connects your perspective to sustainability issues at the Farm and throughout the state. We can’t wait to work with you this summer!

For Middle School Students:

July 26, 27, 28; August 2, 3, 4 and 9, 10, 11

Join Shelburne Farms educators for an expedition exploring the unique social and ecological systems in and around Lake Champlain and Shelburne Farms. Expeditions are set up at Shelburne Farms in advance to explore the farmyard, garden, forest, and lakeshore; but as cool things emerge we’ll follow the groups interest and inquiry. The nine-day mini-course allows you to explore your interests and build relationships with the people and place, deepen your learning and practice skills in the field, and reflect on and apply your knowledge and experience. We are excited to meet you on the Farm this summer!

Virtual "Pen Pal" Exchange Program for Students

One upcoming program we are beginning to recruit for is a virtual "Pen Pal" exchange program through the Department of State's Pan-African Youth Leadership Program (PAYLP) with students from over 38 countries in Africa next month. Students will have the opportunity to connect with their PAYLP peers through weekly "Pen Pal" correspondence and virtual meetings hosted by the VCWA focused on youth leadership, civic engagement, and cross-cultural communication.

If any students of yours are interested in participating in this program, please encourage them to join the VCWA's information session on Wednesday, May 19th from 4:00 - 4:30 PM EST to learn more about the PAYLP Pen Pals opportunity and other summer virtual exchanges!

Congrats to all student artists who participated in the 40th Annual Congressional Art Competition!
