The Burlington Winooski MS Summer flyer will be coming out in mid to late April.

Registration will be via google forms. However, there will also be paper copies available to students if they prefer to register on paper. I am still confirming the number of spots per offering so please identify students in priority who are a good fit for this program.

It is important for students to sign up if they can commit to the 5-week program. It is not for students looking for just one week or two weeks of programming. There will be other programs/opportunities coming out if students are looking for a one week program which better suits their summer schedule.

MS BURLINGTON WINOOSKI SUMMER PROGRAM (includes the academic programs- see below)

ACADEMIC SUPPORT is available throught the Burlington/Winooski partnership.

There will be:

This summer is going to be AWESOME!!!!!

Please think about the your students and what would be the best fit for the student and family. We are trying to set students up for success by matching their needs with the best program. This can be the trickiest part.

Sign Students Up for Shader Croft April Break & Summer Programs for 6th-9th Grade Students

For the last six years we have offered Shader Croft as a summer program for middle & high school ELL students. This year we have the opportunity to expand Shader Croft to include native English speaking students as well. Shader Croft focuses on developing students’ literacy and oral skills through relationship building, social emotional learning and focusing on each individual students’ interests. In non-Covid years, each student chooses, researches and plans their own adventure for their group. These adventures are the focus of their learning and include cooking classes, learning to sail, flying in a biplane, horseback riding and more. This year may look a little different because of COVID, but they have already planned excellent ways to engage students and connect academic work to personal interest.

What to know:

  • April: Shader Croft will offer a 5 day a week, one week April break camp at WSD for twenty four 6th-9th graders to prep them for the summer program, work on their reading & writing skills and keep them engaged.

    • Adventures will be on site and will include four focus areas: coding, magic, cooking and videography

    • Students who attend in April should be committed to attending in summer

  • Summer: Shader Croft will offer a 4 day a week, five week summer program at WSD for up to sixty 6th-9th graders to work on their reading & writing skills, keep them engaged and have fun.

    • Depending on COVID guidelines, adventures will take place on and offsite and will include whatever students are interested in

    • In previous years, swim lessons have been a part of SC

    • Students need to commit to the full five weeks (Monday -Thursday)

    • The summer program is tentatively set to start Monday, June 21st and run through Thursday, July 22nd

Sign Students Up

  • Please fill out this form for interested students by Friday, April 2nd. Decisions on who will attend the April session if we have more than 24 students interested will be made the week of Monday, April 5th.

  • Student Criteria:

    • In 6th-9th grade currently (may expand to older students if there are spots)

    • Shows a need for additional literacy support

    • Will show up and engage

    • Student pairs (one who may not need literacy support, but will engage and bring along another student in need of support) will be considered

  • Questions or want to work for Shader Croft this summer? Contact Kirsten Kollgaard, Director of ELL, kkollgaard@wsdvt.org
