This section will be used to keep you informed of what is going on in our math lessons. We will be using Engage New York as our primary math source this year. There are six modules in the program and I have included math tutorials for each lesson on this site. (I will add the tutorials as the year progresses. Currently I have included all of the lessons for modules 1-4.) Listed below are the critical concepts that every student should leave 5th grade knowing.

Prior to leaving 5th grade:
- Students will finalize their fluency with multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to the hundredths place. Students will demonstrate understanding by making models and explaining their thinking.
- Students will apply their knowledge of fractions and fraction models to represent addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators as equivalent calculations with like denominators. Students will also multiply fractions and will model division of fractions.
- Students recognize volume as a three dimensional space, and will select appropriate units, strategies, and tools for solving problems that involve estimating and measuring volume. Students will connect this to solve real world problems.
