Games/Activities to Try at Home
Strengthening:
-Have your child practice going up and down the stairs with only one foot on each step
-Play on the playground: climbing, sliding, swinging are all great ways to work on leg, arm, and core strength
- Work on core strength by sitting over a surface that moves or is not as stable as a sturdy chair or the firm floor. Something as simple as sitting on a pillow, exercise ball, or away from the backrest of a chair is a sure-fire way to turn on abdominals
- Ride a bike/trike, great way to strengthen legs, core, and practice balance
Balance Challenges:
-The Floor Is Lava: Set up an obstacle course where your child steps onto pillows, over toys, in/out of laundry baskets, etc. working to try and not touch the floor
-Yoga: Search for "kids yoga" with many great simple yoga videos out there, many offer yoga "stories" follow along with
-Soccer: Kick a stationary ball to a target or for more challenge, a ball rolled to you
- Set up simple indoor/outdoor obstacle courses involving going over, under, across different household objects while trying to keep balance
