This season we have 4 returning seniors, and 2 grade 11s (Nate and Naod) that had played varsity in their grade 10 year. Our team’s strength is its guard and wing play led by Alex Oludapo, Mason Param, Xavier Williams and Nate Baraniuk. The four play a pivotal role in our team’s success on both offence and defence and set the tempo for the rest of the team. Naod Baliho’s wing play and growth as a defender will be essential for our team to take the next step. First year prospects Ireoluwa Oke and Emmanuel Ogoye continue to grow and fight for increased playing time. Rounding out our team Mattias, Anjolaoluwa, Bariq, Oluwatobi, and Tobi provide depth, defence, scoring and toughness.
Our team plays with high energy and works hard on both ends of the court. Defensively, we focus on pressuring opponents, forcing turnovers, and controlling the pace of the game. We aim to make it tough for other teams to get into their rhythm.
On offense, we focus on finding the open man. With the efficient scorers and good playmakers, we have, we trust our teamwork and ball movement to create great scoring opportunities. We play unselfish basketball and always look for the best shot.
Our goals for this season are to make provincials and prove ourselves as a team. We want to show that we can compete at a high level, improve with every game, and establish ourselves as one of the strongest teams in our division.
Last year was an incredible season for us, as we became SCAC finalists for the first time in 20 years. We finished the season with an impressive 17-4 record, with three of those losses coming against teams ranked in the top 8. These achievements were a big step forward for our program, and they have motivated us to aim even higher this year.
