This test assesses the student's driving skills and is required to obtain a driver’s license. While the test is NOT part of the program at WFHS and students are encouraged to test at the DLD, our instructors are certified to test and under certain circumstances we can administer the driving test to students. Please reach out to Mr. Budge if you have questions about testing at WFHS.
Test Overview
Scoring: Students start with 0 points, and points are assigned for each error made during the test.
Passing Score: 20 points or fewer.
Failing Score: 21 points or more.
Test Format:
Each test lasts approximately 20–30 minutes and takes place on local roads, following Utah State Driving Guidelines and Criteria.
There will be one or two other students in the car during the test.
An instructor who did not work with the student during the road driving portion will administer the test.
Eligibility
Students must complete all road hours before being scheduled for the driving test.
Students must bring their physical learner’s permit to the test (a photo or copy of the permit is not sufficient).
Passing the Test
Once a student passes:
The test results will be uploaded to the Utah DEMS website within 24 hours.
If the student is 16 years old, has held their permit for at least 6 months, and has completed 40 parent-supervised driving hours, and has passed the traffic safety and trends exam with 100% they can schedule an appointment with the Driver's License Division (DLD) to obtain their driver’s license.
Failing the Test
Students are allowed a total of four attempts to pass the driving test before they must retake the entire Driver Education program.
Only two attempts can be made at the school.
If a student fails twice, the remaining attempts must be taken at the DLD.
If a student is at fault in a crash, they may be expelled from Weber School District’s Driver Education program.
Important Reminders
Students must show up to their scheduled test time. Missed test appointments may result in significant delays, as priority will go to other students already waiting.
Proper preparation and adherence to driving rules are critical for success.
