Join us in the WRHS Learning Commons during Bear Block throughout the last week in May (19th thru 23rd)
We will be making paper poppies in honor of those you know who have died while serving.
We will be making paper poppies in honor of those you know who have died while serving.
The red poppy is a powerful symbol of remembrance and sacrifice, particularly for those who died in war. It's most widely associated with World War I, and its association with military remembrance stems from its growth in the devastated battlefields of Flanders Fields. The striking red color is thought to represent the blood shed by soldiers.

"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.
BookFace Challenge!
A "BookFace Challenge" contest encourages participants to creatively combine their own images with book covers, often blurring the lines between reality and fiction. The goal is to create a visually striking and humorous photo by strategically positioning the book cover against their face or body, making it appear as if the book is part of them or vice versa. Final Submissions due May 13th! Review the details in the slide show.
Voting will take place all day on May 14th and during the Edvention.

Book Bracket WINNER is the MYSTERY: A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson - As her senior capstone project, Pippa Fitz-Amobi is determined to find the real killer in a closed, local murder case, but not everyone wants her meddling in the past. The 2024 NETFLIX TV series was based on this novel.

During Bear Blocks on Wednesday, 3.12 and Thursday, 3.13, students enjoyed an Eat & Explore event in celebration of National PI Day 3.14. Students participated during their Bear Block and experienced the many ways Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) use this fascinating irrational number and how it can be found throughout our lives.

Blind Date with a Book is a library POP-UP event that promotes leisure reading and a love of books! We collected popular fiction and non-fiction titles and hand wrapped each book to conceal the title & author, leaving clues about the book's identity on the wrapping. Many stopped by the Library Media Center for a SURPRISE!

As Hispanic Heritage Month continues join us during Bear Blocks the LAST WEEK in October for a fun activity. Students can explore Paper Circuits and create an interactive calaverita, or skull, for the Dia de Los Muertos celebration. This Mexican holiday is where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. The ofrendas (Offerings) in honor of their departed family member, are presented on altars decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. Students not only learned about the Mexican holiday they also explored how current flows in an electric circuit and how to control it.
