May is Mental Health Month, challenge yourself to examine your world and how it can affect your overall health. Look around, look within – from your neighborhood to genetics, many factors come into play when it comes to your mental health. Learn more about Mental Health including information about how an individual’s environment impacts their mental health, suggestions for making changes to improve and maintain mental well-being, and how to seek help for mental health challenges.

Memorial Day was created to honor the many American men and women who died in military service. Memorial Day is always commemorated in the U.S. on the last Monday in May, this year Memorial Day is on Monday, May 29.

Poppies are associated with those who died during wartime since World War I. In the U.S., people wear the red poppy on Memorial Day to honor those who died trying to protect our country.

The red color is not a symbol of blood, death, or support for war. Instead, poppies were the only flowers that grew in war-torn battlefields. When the countrysides were nothing but mud and devastation, poppy flowers sprouted up and flourished. Students participated during their A, B, or C Lunch and experienced the many ways Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) use this fascinating irrational number and how it can be found throughout our lives.

Blind Date with a Book is a pop-up library event that promotes leisure reading and a love of books! We've collected popular fiction and non-fiction titles and hand wrapped each book to conceal the title & author, leaving clues about the book's identity on the wrapping. Stop by the Library Media Center for a SURPRISE! Take yourself on a date, unwrap the book, and read to your heart's content!

On Wednesday, February 1st we introduced the WRHS Professional Development Reading Room. This extensive collection of teaching and learning resources is available to ALL WRHS staff in a special private space behind the circulation desk. We are also looking for additional teacher resources, so please consider donating some of your favorites to OUR collection. I will happily catalog these and add them to our shelves.

The Flume Award promotes teen reading by inviting teens to help select great literature. Each year 9th through 12th graders across NH nominate their favorite books and vote on the Top Ten.

TeenTober is an initiative from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) that encourages teens to visit their library in October to discover media in all forms, technology, games, STEAM activities, and more.

Mrs. Rings Spanish 1 classes used Paper Circuits to create an interactive calaverita, or skull, for the Dia de Los Muertos celebration. This Mexican holiday is where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. The ofrendas (Offerings) in honor of their departed family member, are presented on altars decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. Students not only learned about the Mexican holiday they also explored how current flows and how to control it.

Banned Books TALKS during the week of September 18th thru 24th. In collaboration with Hall Memorial Library we hosted several Banned Books Talks on the most notorious ALA 2022 literature being censored. Joining us for the THREE SESSIONS (Tuesday, September 20th at 8:30am, 11:15am and 12:15pm) were students from American Lit, Alt English, English 9, and English 10H. Thank you Brittany Shanahan and Kate Boucher from Hall Memorial Library!
