On Thursday, March 12th, we hosted an Eat & Explore in celebration of National PI Day, which is actually 3/14. Students participated during Bear Block AND A, B, & C Lunches and experienced the many ways Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math use this fascinating irrational number and how it can be found throughout our lives. Activities included Raspberry Pi digital games, MakeyMakey Banana bongos & piano, Sphero Robot races and Dash & Cue coding, Digits of Pi Card Games and Paper Chains and games of Connect Four. All students enjoyed a slice of pie and entered a chance to win KIWI STEAM kits as raffle prizes.
Related printed titles and resources are on display, as well as Civil War Quilting crafts representing Women’s Voices. Be sure to explore what The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum have created online. This collection of resources pays tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society. Tech Ambassador Week Event. Over 100 students from grades 8 through 12 joined us on Wednesday, November 13th from 12noon to 2pm to hear women from our community share their STEM Education & Career Experience with stories, activities, and advice on being and supporting women in STEM.
Thank you to all the students and their teachers (Mrs.Desisto, Mrs. Ring, Ms. England, Mrs. Korek, Mr. Pilotte, and Ms. Franz) who attended today's Tech Women Alliance STEM event. Over 100 students rotated through several round-table discussions with four of our industry representatives (Paige Yeater, Emily Cann, Pam Berube, and Tara Stewart). WRHS students were engaged in informative discussions and showed their BEST Bear Pride!
Book Talk - Bring your class in Friday, November 8, 2019 during 3rd Block as local author and midwife, Linda Orsi Robinson will be giving insight to th Impact of Women on War through her book, Sunday Morning, Shamwan - A Midwife's Letter from the Field.
International Games Week is November 3-9, 2019. IGW is an initiative run by volunteers from around the world to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games. ALL WEEK the WRHS Learning Commons will provide students with board games that will expand their experiences in these areas.
On Tuesday, October 15th stop by the WRHS Learning Commons for our final celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Students can experience some of the well known food, music, and dance known across the Latin American region.
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 through October 15) students can participate throughout the day, Friday, October 4th, in making papel picado (pah-pehl pee-kah-doh). This Mexican folk art consists of designs commonly cut from colored tissue paper using a guide or template. Common themes include birds, floral designs, and skeletons. Join us any time of the day!
¡Buenos días, amigos! Es una fiesta en la Bibloteca. Yes, we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15 in the Learning Commons. We will be exploring the colorful Spanish culture through its literature, art, language, music, dance and the contributions made by famous Hispanish Americans. Come explore with us throughout this month long celebration!
Banned Books Week is September 22-28, 2019 - We are collaborating with the English Department and Hall Memorial Library to bring a book talk on the most NOTORIOUS Banned Books. (Monday 9/23 1:30pm-2:30pm. Friday 9/27, 8am-9am) You will also see on display OUR COLLECTION of Banned Books, so check out these MOST WANTED!
In celebration of September’s Library Card Sign-Up Month, WRHS Students participated in the Learning Commons' first Eat & Explore sessions during Bear Block AND A, B, & C Lunches. Activities includes library card sign-ups with Hall Memorial library, playing a few rounds of Giant Connect Four and Foosball with peers, and exploring STEAM activities with circuits and robots in the MakerSpace.
