GRADES K - 2
Students will work on PE class rules, procedures and building a learning foundation as well as:
LOCOMOTOR Skills (ways we travel from one place to another- Run, Walk, Skip, Gallop, SideSlide, Jump, Leap, Hop).
PATHWAYS (straight, curved, zigzag)
SPEEDS (fast, medium, slow)
LEVELS (high, low, medium) and
DIRECTIONS (forward, backward, sideways).
THROWING/CATCHING SKILLS
The following ACRONYM is used in class to help students remember how to throw:
S tance (side facing the target)
T ouch (use one hand only on the ball)
A rm ( arm should be bent like a letter "L" & serving arm straight)
R elease (what happens when we let go of the ball or it leaves the hand)
S tep ( step with the opposite foot )
The students in grades K-2 will practice Push-up/Low plank form.
GRADES 3 - 4
The students in grades 3-4 will be working on skills involving Frisbees/Discs (throwing, catching, defending, moving to space, closing space ). Much of the drills, skills and activities implemented in class will be taken from the various Frisbee/Disc curriculum.
On days where students are unable to be outside for PE, they will begin Fitness work (using Jump Ropes, Agility Ladders, TRX, Sandbells and Xertubes) as well as learning Fitness Principles.
Students will also work on getting ready for the Fitnessgram Fitness Challenges by working their upper body and core muscle strength/endurance & flexibility exercises.
At the end of October 2027 beginning of November, students in Grades 1-4 will be completing the Fitness Challenges. This includes the following:
P.A.C.E.R. - Cardiovascular Endurance
Low Plank - Core muscle strength/endurance
1 Leg Sit & Reach - Flexibility
Students in Kindergarten will complete the P.A.C.E.R. this month. They will learn about the correct push-up/low plank postition and form but not complete the Fitnessgram protocols.
