Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of
students and
parents.
When can my child stay for extra help?
On Thursday afternoons from 3-4pm, I am available for any
student
with
questions about the week's objectives, makeup work,
notebook help or project fair questions. I do ask that students
sign up by
Wednesday so that I will know how many students will be attending.
Can my child pass in late work?
I always encourage students to make up homework
assignments that are missed as they are required for the Working
Portfolio
assessment. Worksheets that are reviewed in class may not be
submitted for
credit- as the answers have been given in class. Extended
homework
assignments-graphs, labs, discussion questions may be passed in
late after
classroom discussion but will be graded accordingly. STUDENTS WHO
HABITUALLY
TURN IN LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY-
IE. ALL
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE CYCLE
CANNOT BE TURNED IN 1 WEEK PRIOR TO PROGRESS REPORTS.
Can low test grades be make up? Quizzes?
Because study guides are given for tests
I DO NOT allow tests to be made up. Failing Quizzes require an
afterschool
(Thursday) review and remediation session. Additional questions
are given
and the score can be raised to a passing 75.
Homework- What is the purpose and how much is too much?
Science homework is given to complete or extend the activities
from class.
Therefore, it may not be given every evening and is difficult to
forecast
ahead of time. I will try to limit homework assignments so that
students will not have more than 1-1.5 hours total at night. If
the
students
are working up to 2 hrs-please stop them at 1.5 and write a note
so that the
work can be modified. When students are asked to take q-notes on
the chapter, this may be broken down into nightly chunks or
weekly assignments.
Where can students get more information on the topics covered in class?
Internet resources will be provided to students in class
and will
be posted on the Links section of this web page. Textbook
chapters are
assigned to students to further their understanding of the
concepts
discussed.
How can I use my Textbook as a reference?
Students are encouraged to use class notes, activity sheets and Physical
Science Textbooks to help with their understanding of material. Textbooks
are available for student reference. The units in Physical Science are based
on the Massachusetts Frameworks and WRSD curriculum guidelines. The text
book chapters do not follow in order. Please refer to the list below for
the corresponding chapters in the Physical Science Textbook.
