Topic Objective(s):
I CAN describe technologies based on the solubility of materials.
examples: mining salt or potash by dissolving
I CAN describe technologies based on flow rate and viscosity.
examples: heavy oil extraction from tar sands, development of motor oils for different seasons, ketchup/mustard squeeze bottles
I CAN describe technologies for moving fluids from one place to another.
examples: intravenous lines, pumps and valves, oil and gas pipelines
I CAN construct a device that uses fluids to apply a force or to contorl motion
examples: construct a model hydraulic lift; construct a submersible that can be made to sink or float by transfer of a fluid; construct a model of a pump
Use one of the examples listed above, one of the examples listed in the slides, or an example of your own and describe how the properties of fluids we have discussed in the unit explain how it works. Possible project formats:
Make a one-pager, poster or infographic.
Make a slide presentation.
Build a model.
Write a children's picture book about the technology you chose.
Make a short video explaining one of these technologies.
You will also be assessing yourself and providing a written statement about how this project represents mastery of the outcomes.
