In order to schedule your appointment we will need pictures of your unit/fireplace, and pictures of your roof/chimney. Please include those in the booking request
At every appointment we clean out the flue and fireplace system then inspect the unit inside of your home, the internal chimney system, and the exposed chimney on top of your home to ensure the chimney is safe to use and sealed from the outside.
What were looking for on the inside:
Flue Condition
We get a 360* view of the inside of your chimney ensuring there are no areas smoke could escape back into the home and the smoke can smoothly exit
Firebox Size
We take full measurements of the firebox and flue to ensure it is properly sized and will draft correctly when needed. If you ever want to install a new product we will have your measurements on file!
Mantel Clearances
Every fireplace has different mantel clearances, we do our research to make sure your mantel is safe from the heat
Proper Venting
We get inside of your chase to verify the venting was installed correctly and proper safety codes followed
Hearth Protection
The minimum hearth protection needed for a wood burring appliance is 16"
Damper
We make sure that your damper is safe and functional
Firebox Condition
We inspect the condition of your firebox to ensure there are no cracks or missing mortar
Clearance to Combustibles
We research your fireplace and verify all clearances are met
What we are inspecting on the outside:
Crown Condition
The crown allows direct access into your home. We typically start our exterior inspection by taking measurements and verifying no water can penetrate
Proper Support and Height
Every flue has a specific height needed to draw smoke out of the home properly and depending on the height supports are needed
Chase Structure
Over time the chase around your chimney system will start to degrade eventually letting water into the attic of your home
Flashing
The flashing is what seals the chimney to your roof, we inspect to make sure they are still sealed
Chimney Cap
We are also looking to see if your chimney has a cap over the flue to prevent birds and other debris from entering the fireplace
Presence of a Cricket
The cricket diverts water away from the backside of your chimney preventing any standing water
Mortar Condition
The mortar in your chimney will deteriorate over time, we make sure that it is still holding and no tuckpointing is needed
Moss & Mildew
We check to see if any moss or mildew is growing on the chimney, this means that the structure is holding water which can lead to leaks
Cleaning the Chimney
We check the chimney cap for creosote build up and clean with a wire brush
We disconnect the appliance and clean the connections
We vacuum out the firebox and inspect for any damages to the firebricks
We scrape your glass clean making it look like new again
We dump the ashes and inspect the ash dump & gaskets
We clean the blowers of any debris that may have gotten stuck
We keep our equipment out to keep your home clean
