The oldest known fossil of rats was found to be 34 million years old. the most well known story of rats happened in the medieval age and when they spread the black death. they may have been the reason that the plague killed 1/3 of Europe this may have been because the Europeans were killing cats causing the rat population to grow. Past this the Europeans built a lot of boats to travel everywhere when rats smelled the food on board they stowed away and then Europeans discovered North America the rats were everywhere and the European began sending ships to North America the rats stowed on those ships too which is how rats conquered the world. The only resistance they faced began in 1950 when Alberta enacted its policy for all citizens to report rats sightings today Alberta is the only place other than Arctic and Antarctica that is rat free.
