The main goal in Film & Video classes is education, not entertainment. Through sequential learning, students receive instruction in the basic foundations of television production with a strong emphasis on respect for equipment, teamwork, creativity and organizational skills. In the WHSTV15 Studio, our students are provided with the most current equipment possible which leads to top-notch knowledge in editing and production. INTRODUCTION TO FILM & VIDEO CP, Grades 9-12. No prerequisite required.
Introduction to Film and Video teaches the theory of video production and filmmaking. Students learn conceptualization, visualization, story structure, cinematography, sound recording, camera technique, non-linear editing, and media literacy. During this exciting and dynamic class, students receive expert hands-on training. Introduction to Film & Video is a prerequisite for all Film & Video courses.
INTERMEDIATE FILM & VIDEO
Honors, Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Intro to Film & Video
Intermediate Video Production students become proficient with the skills required to produce complex projects. Students learn advanced non-linear editing, manual operation of the camera, audio acquisition, lighting techniques and lens theory. Students demonstrate hands-on expertise upon successful completion of this course.
ADVANCED FILM & VIDEO
Honors, Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Intermediate Film & Video
Advanced Video Production students begin to develop a personal voice as a producer while building on previously learned technical skills. With an emphasis on longer formats, students learn the importance of meeting deadlines, proper pre-production planning, designing an effective shooting schedule, conducting in-depth research and coordinating interviews. After hours work is required to meet course objectives.
VIDEO PRODUCTION PORTFOLIO
Honors, Grade 12
Prerequisite: Advanced Film & Video
Video Production Portfolio is designed to prepare students for success in college media classes or in the field of video production. Goals include refining solid production basics and improving overall job skills. Students build a portfolio of modern media examples to showcase their work.
FILM STUDIES
CP, Grade 12
Prerequisite: No prerequisite is required.
Film Studies is an introduction to the principles of film aesthetics, and the historical context in which films were created. The course provides students with the ability to understand what films mean and how directors convey thoughts cinematically. Using newspapers, advertisements, television, movies, documentaries, and websites, students will deconstruct content and develop an understanding of how media influences society.
