The Schenevus and Worcester central school districts began discussing the possibility of a merger in 2019 as Schenevus began to seek solutions to its structural deficit.
The Schenevus and Worcester boards of education hear a presentation from Castallo & Silky Education Consultants LLC about the merger process.
Schenevus and Worcester central schools applies for a grant to offset the $50,000 cost or a merger study, with a commitment to pursue the study if Worcester agrees.
Schenevus and Worcester central schools receive a $25,000 award from the Regional Economic Development Council to offset the cost of the merger study.
The Worcester Board of Education votes to move forward with a merger study. The two districts engage Castallo & Silky Education Consultants LLC as consultants to perform the annexation merger study.
The Merger Committee is formed and begins meeting monthly with representatives Castallo & Silky.
A draft of the annexation merger study is completed and submitted to the New York State Education Department for review.
The annexation merger study report is submitted to the Schenevus and Worcester Boards of Education and made available for public review. A public forum is held Jan. 19 to give an overview of key findings in the report.

Boards vote on moving forward with merger. Date set for straw vote.
Merger Report distributed to residents of both districts
Advisory referendum, or "straw vote," approved by a majority of voters.
Binding referendum scheduled for Dec. 1, 2021. If a majority of voters in both districts vote "yes," the districts will merge.
Worcester CSD will form committees representing Schenevus and Worcester school communities to help advise on the development of curriculum and other programs.
Schenevus and Worcester residents will vote on:
Members of the Worcester Central School District Board of Education.
The annual budget of the enlarged Worcester Central School District.
Adding two seats to the Worcester board.
If seats are added, a special election will be held between May and July to seat two new board members.
