Week 13: Decimals, Fractions, Money
This week in math, students focused on how to seamlessly transition from fractions to decimals and apply this knowledge to money. They looked at multiples of tens through a new lens by converting place values. We played a place value card game that resulted in a friendly competition.

Week 11 & 12: North Carolina Culture Projects
Over the month of February, students have been creating our "Who We Are" 4th grade mural. This project was inspired by the artwork from the NC Museum of Art and the murals of Eric Davis. Our 4th graders expressed their knowledge of North Carolina through art. Key highlights identified by the students ranged from food and sports to love of nature and respect for historical roots. They did a wonderful job and we invite you to take a peek at our hall to see the final masterpiece in person!

Week 10: Big Buddies, Medieval Times Posters, and Mardi Gras Parade

Our high school buddies created a review game for the flamingos to play. They did a great job making review of previously covered topics fun!  Students created posters representing the people from the middle ages. They then taught each other about the social class they focused on. Finally, kiddos looked great in the Mardi Gras gear!

Week 9: Moon Phases
We have been discussing the phases of the moon as part of our science investigations. This week Mrs. Fields was the sun, Mrs. Norris was the moon, and the students were earth. Although we didn't get pics of this collaborative inquiry, we did get a few shots of some independent practice.

Week 8:  For literacy we are exploring Middle Ages and Medieval Times through both fiction and non-fiction texts. This week we designed our own shields and wrote about how they represent us as an individual. Also, our Big Buddies set up a Fun Friday event for us!

Week 5 & 6: MLK Day Celebrations, Field Trip, Math Games, Finished Puzzles and MORE

Week 4: Winter Wonders

4th grade shared their families' traditions during our 2 day Winter Wonders Celebration!

We played games, listened to music, made snowflakes, built forts, decorated cookies, sipped hot chocolate and most importantly, enjoyed each other's company!

Week 3: Poetry & Math Review this Week

Week 2: One of the beauties of Woods in action, the fourth graders were so excited to play soccer with some of the high schoolers this week!  I think it was 4 high schoolers playing against about 12 of my flamingoes. Also pictured below: math review stations and book clubs at work.

Week 1: Yay for MARVELOUS MOUNTAINS! Our geology unit is complete! These kids "rocked" it out. Seriously, wonderful job. Also pictured below is our geometry games. Mrs. Fields would describe a shape using our geometry vocabulary. The students would use those clues to create or find the shape being described. Students also used a variety of manipulates to create symmetrical patterns, shapes, and pictures.
