Instrumental Music

The Instrumental Program at Woodland is a program comprised of many elements all finely balanced between the old and the new. There are long standing traditions within the school culture that we absolutely love participating in, but, at the same time, we are growing our roots deeper into the local community and branching into new avenues of technique, style, and performance. Within the past few years, we have even created brand new ensembles and music camps and we are always looking at what's ahead of us in the ever-evolving art that is music.

Here are the ensembles that we currently offer and links to their informational pages:

Letters in Band:

The idea of giving band students Letterman Patches as an award for excellence in band is a concept that was, unfortunately, put on a shelf for awhile. I had some difficulty coming up with rigorous but measurable and attainable goals for high school students to accomplish in order to truly  earn the awards and with other things going on in the program, the idea was tabled temporarily. Through some collaboration with some other band directors and our athletic director, I was able to put together a list of requirements that I believe show definite dedication and effort within the area of music and true excellence of musical qualities of ambitious young musicians.

What is required to earn a Letterman Patch for Music at WHS:

A great place to find fingerings for new notes, alternative fingerings for older notes, and trill fingerings galore!

A place of inspiration and all kinds of technique videos for percussionists!
