In 1937 the Basque town of Guernica was destroyed by German and Italian warplanes on the orders of Spanish President Franco, Spanish Artist Pablo Picasso was horrified and responded by creating The World's most famous war painting named Guernica after the town. Year 6 created their own version depicting fear and aggression.
Year 6 have been finding out about The Victorians, so we began our art lessons by looking at a famous Victorian painting 'Last of England' by Ford Maddox Brown. We talked about personal experiences of moving to another country and the emotions involved. We re-staged the painting using year 6 children as models and learned how to draw figures correctly. Finally we added paint to produce amazing results.
We also looked at Millais' painting Ophelia and recreated using our own model.
