Fifth former John Payne writes our travel journal entry for Monday, March 2, 2026.
We set off this morning at around 9 AM, and enjoyed a relaxing two-hour van ride before we arrived at Mont Saint Michel. Mont Saint Michel was a very cool place, since the tides around it are expectionally strong, so the ocean around Mont Saint Michel recedes completely and then returns.
After we arrived at Mont Saint Michel, we spent half an hour touring the Abbey of Mont Saint Michel. The Abbey was massive, and the views from the top of the Abbey were pretty amazing. We then went to a restaurant near the top of Mont Saint Michel, which served very good lamb. The lamb was sourced locally, and they were saltier than usual because they grazed on salty grass while they were still living.
Once we were finished with lunch, we went on a tour of Mont Saint Michel. The tour guide was a medieval man in arms that lived on Mont Saint Michel. The tour was very comprehensive, and all of the members of the group understood it well, probably because the tour was given in English. Apparently it was the guide's first time giving a tour in English, but we would've never known had he not told us.
Finally, we drove back and got dinner. Along the way, we stopped at a supermarket and bought some snacks. We had dinner at Villa Eugène, and it was really good. While waiting for dinner, we were informed of the dangers of mispronouncing beaucoup, which an anonymous student whose name rhymes with "Pole Beade" warned us about a couple days earlier. Unfortunately, some of us had been pronouncing it wrong the whole trip. After dinner, we took a peaceful stroll back to the hotel.
