Managing School Operations

A leader effectively directs operations and manages resources.

Thanks to my experience as a Colony teacher/principal, as well as Colony team leader, this is one area where I have more experience than other typical teachers. I really enjoy the management and organization aspect of the administrative role.

I was instrumental in setting up a change to the RES Options programs and continue to help with this each term.

 My grade team partner and I were talking and thought it would a great idea to allow students the ability to choose their own Options courses in grades 4 trhough 6, so I made the proposal to our principal. She accepted and I suggested we use Google forms with ChoiceElimator as a means of selection. We successfully ran Options this was this past year and the students loved it. Unfortunately, COVid caused our mixed class options to be put on hold for a couple of years, but once everything was safe again, we once again began implementing choice. We've had to adapt the way we do the selections, but overall, the program still runs the same way.

In the Aspiring Leaders program, we practiced building both a junior high time table and an ACE plan. These activities were very enlightening. 

Timetabling is a very under appreciated task. This is a huge job and I've learned that it will take a lot of time, patience, and brain breaks to achieve an efficient time table.

Creating an ACE plan is something that, as a Learning Coach, I have had a small amount of experience in as I was asked to contribute to plans in schools I supported. However, working with Provincial testing data to create school wide plans made me realized how important it is to take a broad view and help staff to understand that everyone needs to take ownership of those results.
