This quote represents my thoughts and feelings very well. I firmly believe that everyone deserves respect all of the time. We need respect where everyone is, where they have been, and where they are going. Everyone is at their own point in their journey. Everyone needs a different level of support to get to where they need to go.
My classroom expectations and culture mirror this. My students learn quickly that they are to treat everyone with respect, especially on days when they really don't feel like giving it because that's when it's needed the most.
My students understand that everyone needs a different level of support to learn the same things. They appreciate that those that are ready can move on while those that need a little more time can use it.
I feel I was able to do this very well in my roles as learning coach, lead teacher and acting admin.
Without a culture of respect, solid evidence-informed teaching and learning can't happen.
