The Junior High Concert Band is comprised of all seventh and eighth grade band members and continues the progress made in fifth grade and sixth grade. Just as in 6th Grade Band, the first quarter of the year focuses on establishing routines, developing tone quality and range, and working on technique. We move away from the lesson books during full band because of varying abilities at this level, and instead focus on rhythm, music theory, tuning, and balance within an ensemble.
The Junior High Concert Band rehearses every other day for 45 minutes. Band members start their year off by performing in the Mass Band pre-game show with the "Wildcat" Marching Band. They give 3 formal performances during the school year and participate in our school’s Junior High Solo/Ensemble Contest. These students also have the opportunity to audition for the Northwest Iowa Junior High Honor Band in October.
