Overcome procrastination by studying while you scroll! Popcorn uses active recall at timed intervals using popups on your screen. Just set the interval, pick your deck, and set the timer. You can do anything else you want and when the interval comes around, Popcorn will freeze your screen and have you answer a few flashcards before you can return to your doomscrolling. It will use open source software from Anki to provide a perfectly tailored study experience.
THE RESEARCH:
I will ask half of the students willing to consent to use Popcorn software for 30 minutes at 1q/min each night for a week to learn a set of flash cards that I will prepare.
The rest of the students will be given the same flash cards on paper and asked to study them for 30 minutes each night for a week.
The sets of students will be given the same quiz before and after the study, and the grades will be recorded. Tests will be anonymous, with students writing which group they were in instead of their names. On the test, there will be questions ranking their satisfaction with their assigned study method and a place for them to self-report any instances where they did not study as much as they were supposed to, or at all.
