Billie Eilish's music falls into the pop genre in many different ways, but the main way is the repeating chorus and the length of the song. Although most of her songs could technically be considered electropop due to the use of heavy base in the background of many of her songs. Billie has continued to publish music after this debut song and together she and her brother have played around with many different styles. Although with the experimentation of styles her music for the main part continues to fall under the pop genre.

Ocean eyes sounds like someone who may have mystical or very blue eyes that are somehow related to the ocean. This song actually talks about a person who has "ocean eyes" and has captivated the heart of the singer. Certain lyrics though show the hidden destruction that this beautiful person hides inside of them "Burning cities" "And napalm skies" "Fifteen flares inside those ocean eyes". Many overlook any negative aspects a person may have when they first meet or are introduced to a new person, due to the instant attraction that they have. As the song continues her harmonies change and during the lyrics "no fair" where she reaches one of her longest harmonies. In a symbolic way this can represent how she dislikes how much she likes this person and how much control they have over her emotions. There is also a constant beat that starts when she begins elaborating on the negative aspects this man holds and stops when she reaches her final "no fair" in the lyrics. That may be a way of showing that the song is ending, but in a symbolic way it could also mean that she accepted that she doesn't want to be with a toxic person just because of how they look. This song is very relatable to how many feel when they are attracted to a person for how they physically look, but not for how they act or treat other people. Tying in to modern day culture this song can be related to how so many are quick to judge a person without ever actually getting a chance to know them. By this instant judgment many lose out on opportunities that could be life changing all because of how one looks in the moment.
