At Weslaco High School, the band program combines with award-winning programs in orchestra, choir, and mariachi to form the music department. The Honors Band, a 45 to 60 member select ensemble, is the top performing group in the band program. With an enrollment of 260 students, the comprehensive instrumental program at Weslaco High School includes four concert ensembles selected by audition, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Winter Guard, Indoor Percussion Ensemble, various instrumental ensembles and the award-winning Panther Corps Marching Band. Our students participate in the All-Region Band every year in hopes to advance to the Texas All State Band. The Weslaco Bands have enjoyed numerous Sweepstakes awards and Superior Ratings at UIL contests. The Marching band has received numerous awards as an Area participant. The Weslaco Band’s most recent achievements include earning Grand Champions at the San Benito Marching Festival in 2019 and earning straight division 1 ratings at the UIL Region 28 Pigskin Marching Contest.

Weslaco ISD students begin band in sixth grade, and those attending Weslaco High School come from two middle schools: B. Garza and Central Middle School. In middle school, students begin their instrumental instruction in homogenous classes and then participate in concert bands in seventh and eighth grade. Credit for the strength and success of the Weslaco HS band program must be shared with these committed middle school teachers.
