Rodrigo Leal is currently in his 9th year at Weslaco High School and in his 16th year of teaching music education. During his tenure at Weslaco High School, the Weslaco bands have been earned superior ratings at the UIL Concert Sight Reading Evaluation and consistent Straight 1st Divisions at the UIL Region 28 Marching Contest and advancements to the UIL Area G Marching Band Finals.

Aside from being the Director of Bands at WHS, Mr. Leal is an active adjudicator and member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association.

Before coming to Weslaco High School, Mr. Leal taught at Raymondville High School as the Head Director of the Mighty Bearkat Band where he had several UIL Sweepstake Awards and advancing to Area Marching Band Finals at the UIL Area E Marching Contest in 2016. Prior to 2014, he served as an assistant band director in Raymondville and Weslaco High School

Mr. Leal graduated from Texas A & M University – Kingsville with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education as well as Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University. Mr. Leal currently resides in Mercedes, TX with his wife Yram, and daughters, Lilliana and Laryssa.
