According to Sanborn Maps (see below), between 1908 and 1942, 448 W Mifflin went from 2 to 2.5 stories, and its footprint underwent a significant change in footprint. Today, this change is visually apparent when viewing the building's 3rd story from the street. As speculated in the drawings to the right, 448 was originally a 2-story gable front with wing and was about half as deep. The renovations (Unrecorded- Madison building permits for 448 begin in 1947) also maintained the front gable above the second story and instead continued that roof angle upwards to add the third story to the Northeast side of the house. In the rear, a simple rectangular structure was added, slightly jutting into the existing building prioritizing function over form.

Simple floorplans maintain (seemingly) original woodwork between dining rooms and living rooms.
