The anomaly that the Blied homes present on W Mifflin St. is only further exacerbated by the progression of 450 W. Mifflin and 454 W. Mifflin from multiple family homes, to rental homes, to the eventual apartment complexes that we are familiar with
450 W. Mifflin was built in 1896, which lines up with the first documented owner of the building that we were able to find through the building permit, being Hattie Statz Zirkel. A newspaper clipping from March 24th, 1935, reads, "Mrs. Hattie Zirkel, 450 W. Mifflin St., died Saturday at her home after a long illness. Her husband, John Zirkel, died just 36 years ago Saturday. Survivors are a son, John Zirkel, Madison, and a daughter, Mrs. Albert Nonn; and five grandchildren". City directories seem to line up with these events, as after 1935, the people residing in that home are John B Zirkel and Albert Nonn. John B Zirkel is the child of Hattie Statz Zirkel, and Albert Nonn is the husband of Hattie Zirkel Nonn, who is also the child of Hattie Statz Zirkel.
The Donahue family resided in 454 W. Mifflin from 1902 - 1917 composed of John J. Donahue and Margret J. Donahue and moved around Madison, renting out different houses until their deaths in 1961 and 1977 respectively. 454 W. Mifflin also followed the patterns of the Donahue couple by having different couples rent it out every few years. It is important to note that at this point it there are only small families or married couples that rent out this home which will change soon with a shift in culture and encroachment of students further away from campus in Madison
