All students in the Class of 2024 have a 20 hour service learning requirement that should be completed by the end of their 10th grade year.
WIS asks for 9th grade students to record and reflect upon at least one engagement in creativity and one engagement in action each semester.
All students in the Class of 2024 will record their service learning engagements using our ManageBac software- see below for detailed instructions.
CAS in an acronym for Creativity, Action and Service which is part of the core of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for 11th and 12th grade students. We believe that the aims of the CAS program are so beneficial we have established a similar CAS program for our 9th and 10th grade students.
New this year, we are asking for 9th grade students to record and reflect upon at least one engagement in creativity and one engagement in action each semester.
We believe that engaging in creativity- activities and engagement with the traditional and emerging performing, visual and multimedia arts nurtures curiosity, wonder and perspective taking which leads to the development cultural competency. We believe that engaging in physical activity is a healthy balance to intellectually focused life.
CAS for the class of 2021 includes:
9/10 recording and reflection for engagements in Creativity, Action and Service
Students must earn 20 hours of service learning hours before the end of 10th grade
Students should record at least one out of school engagement in creativity and action per semester
Successful completion of CAS for 9/10th will guarantee your eligibility for off campus privileges during the Fall semester of your Junior year. This means at the end of your Sophomore year your ManageBac portfolio will have the following:

The total of activities marked service is at least 20 hours
There are four categories of service learning. Click on the CAS examples below to learn about each type:
CAS Examples of Direct Service
CAS Examples of Indirect Service
To record your service you must first create a new CAS Activity.
To create a new CAS Activity select DP Manager.
Step 1: Dashboard
Step2: Choose DP Manager.
Step 3: Choose CAS.
Step 4: Add CAS Experience.
As you are recording your service we would like you also to reflect on your experience. Consider answering the following questions as part of your reflective recording:
What do you perceive and notice?
How you feel being involved?
What do you think and feel about the activity itself?
What does the activity mean to you?
What value does the activity have?
What did you learn from this activity, and how might you extrapolate from this to apply any lesson to your life more generally?
This is your CAS Worksheet.
