CAS in an acronym for Creativity, Action and Service which is part of the core of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for 11th and 12th grade students. We believe that the aims of the CAS program are so beneficial we have established a similar CAS program for our 9th and 10th grade students.
WIS asks 9th grade students to record and reflect upon at least one engagement in creativity and one engagement in action each semester.
We believe that engaging in creativity- activities and engagement with the traditional and emerging performing, visual and multimedia arts nurtures curiosity, wonder and perspective taking which leads to the development of cultural competency. We believe that engaging in physical activity is a healthy balance to intellectually focused life.
CAS for All includes:
9th and 10th grade students recording and reflection for engagements in Creativity, Action and Service
Students must earn 20 hours of service learning hours before the end of 10th grade
Students should record at least one out of school engagement in creativity and action per semester
Successful completion of CAS for 9/10th will guarantee your eligibility for off campus privileges during the Fall semester of your Junior year. This means at the end of your Sophomore year your ManageBac portfolio will have the following:
At least four out of school activities marked creativity
At least four out of school activities marked action
The total of activities marked service is at least 20 hours
Students are notified about opportunities through their WIS email account.
Students should first speak with their advisors about off campus community service opportunities. Students may also speak with or email Mx. Redding indicating their interests and she will help locate an appropriate placement. Take a look at our Distance Learning page to see what is available for you to participate in safely during the COVID19 pandemic.
All students will use the MangeBac software.
