Research and Define

The first step to completing this project was to look at all the issues going on today. We discussed some issues as a class as a way for us to become familiar with many different solutions. We continued to research and found an important matter that the entire world is facing: food insecurity. Not only food insecurity but accessibility to healthy nutritious food. This was an important step because it allowed us to properly narrow down a specific topic. We reached out to many organizations and when we came across the establishment called Grass Roots we knew we wanted to partner with them. We interviewed people across campus to find ways to improve our design. This allowed us to get feedback.

Ideate

We reached out to many organizations and when we came across the establishment Grass roots we knew we wanted to partner with them. We interviewed people across campus to find ways to improve our design. This allowed us to make necessary changes. After we finished level 1 we constructed our mind map and wrote 40 innovative ideas on post-its and then chose our final design. This took a lot of brainstorming. This task was important because it allowed us to find a simplified solution. We had to present our final idea to our peers in order to make sure that our solution was fully developed and there were no flaws to our plan. We chose to make fruit leather made of unattractive fruits and vegetables that would be delivered to food-insecure households that are unable to obtain healthy food due to many reasons.

Test, Iterate, and Implement

Next we made slides explaining our prototype. We had a meeting with Stephanie, a secretary of Grass Roots and made the necessary changes and additions to our solution to ensure our product was in the best shape possible. After all of the planning and struggles we finally started creating our prototype. After many tries  we were finally  ready to produce the fruit leather. We then delivered the fruit leather to Stephanie, a secretary of Grass Roots and then they were delivered to the clients of grass roots. We collected the data we received from the feedback form on the back of our packages, graphed it, and discussed further. This was important because it allowed us to really understand what we could do better next time. We then added the graph to our website and we were on our way to completing the project.

Launch

Our last and final step was to launch our product. We started by creating the final video that describes the entire process of creating our product. This allowed us to go into great detail explaining what our mission is and what we do. With that completed, we prepared for the community forum which is a way for us to share and discuss our invention. For our interactive element we put out our fruit/vegetable leather. We then organized and updated our website and made sure it had all the necessary information. This was important because we were able to proofread, add details, and make sure it looked as professional as possible. Now that our product is finally finished we reflected on how we could improve our product in the future.
