1st Semester
American literature is not only a study of literature, but a study of our history as a nation. Our lives are indelibly linked to history as America has defined itself by overcoming sometimes insurmountable odds. The American spirit is wrapped in the struggle that has defined us as a global superpower. When faced with overwhelming despair and the fate of our world was in jeopardy, we thrived and persevered by working together toward a common goal.
Our literature is based on a unique American experience that we share through oral tradition, protest literature, new forms of poetry and the changing mindset of citizens in a postmodern world.
We will focus on the power of the written word, how it shapes us and resonates in all we do.
To be an American is to do more, be more and give more in order to make the world a better place.
