Common questions on Results Day
Most universities are happy to do this once you have your results and meet the entry requirements.
Give them a ring to discuss.
If they are unable to do this, and you definitely want to defer, then you would need to withdraw your application for the 2025 cycle and do a new application via UCAS apply for 2026 entry.

When is the A Level results day in England?
Thursday 14 August
BTEC results will be received on or before this date.
The system should be available from about 8am
f the universities have received all your results and made a decision, then the status of your offer will have changed to one of the following:
Unconditional – your place on the course has been confirmed.
Unconditional Changed Course (UCC) – you do not meet the conditions of your offer, but the university has offered you an alternative course. You have five days to decide.
Unsuccessful – you have not been accepted and are now eligible for clearing.
Waiting for confirmation - the university is still reviewing your application. Check whether they have emailed you for further information.
They may be waiting for confirmation of your results – look out for an email asking you to submit a scanned copy of your results slip.
· They are waiting for a GCSE result which is due at a later date.
· They are still considering your application and whether they are able to offer you a place as you have not met the conditions of your offer.
Look out for an email from the university who will advise you as to the next step.
You can use the 'Decline my place' button on your application to release your application into clearing.
Make sure that you have considered all your options before doing this, as once done you will have lost your confirmed place.
Talk through your options with an Adviser.
Quick Guide to Clearing
Clearing opens on 5 July and is the method by which you can apply for a course that still has places available. This allows the universities to fill any remaining places and for the applicant to research for courses that interest them and for which they meet the entry requirements.
When would you use it?
· Applying after 30 June.
· Did not receive any offers or did not accept any.
· On results day, do not meet the conditions of your offers.
· On results day, decide to self-release from your firm offer.
How do you use it?
Your UCAS application will indicate that you are in Clearing.
You can then either use Clearing Plus or search for courses yourself.
Clearing Plus
Through Clearing Plus UCAS will suggest courses for which you meet the entry requirements and that are similar to your original choices.
You will be able to view your matches in your UCAS application using the See Matches button.
This will show a list of 50 matches, and you can then select up to four and indicate through your application that you are interested.
Universities will then call you for a discussion and hopefully offer you a place.
If you are happy with this offer you can then add it as a Clearing choice and the university will confirm the place.
If you are not interested in any of the matches you can still use the clearing search.
Clearing Search
If you prefer not to use Clearing Plus, or are unable to, then you can use the UCAS search to find relevant courses.
Once you have found one, contact the university on their clearing line for a chat.
If they make you an offer, and you want to proceed with it, add it as a Clearing Choice which the university will then confirm, subject to any conditions they have discussed with you.
Do not enter a Clearing Choice unless you have already spoken to the university, and they have advised you that this is the next step.
