Viola

The viola is slightly larger than a violin and plays slightly lower. The part the viola plays in the orchestra is typically harmony. The viola has a dark, rich sound. Like all string instruments, violas come in different sizes to fit you just right. It’s sound is produced by plucking the strings (pizzicato) or by bowing the strings (arco). The viola reads the alto clef.
