Third Grade:
Introduce this book by discussing that we are so fortunate to have easy access to clean water and give examples like showering and turning on the faucet in our houses any time we want. Discuss the fact that many parts of the world suffer from water scarcity.
Let students know this is a true story about Georgie Badiel, who went on to become a super-model, but started a foundation to build wells in parts of the world without access to clean water.

Fourth Grade:
FYI - I usually use a "wheel of names" to choose which 4th grader can sit in the 2 comfy chairs. You can just tell them we're not doing that today, or if you wish you can choose 2 students who haven't done it yet.
Remind students that we already read The Widow's Broom, by Chris Van Allsburg in October at Halloween time. The book we are reading today is his first book. Van Allsburg used a real bull terrier as a model to draw Fritz. The real dog was later sadly hit by a car and died, so Van Allsburg has put a hidden "Fritz" in every one of his other books. For instance on the bedpost of the little boy's room on the first page of The Polar Express. You can show them. Then read. Ask the kids what they think really happened at the end. Van Allsburg books usually have a little mystery and an open ending for the reader to decide.

September 30 - October 6
We will all review October Holidays, Events and Poems on the Library Website. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will hear a story and continue to learn about using the library and finding the books you love! 3rd and 4th grade students will review using the Online Catalog and placing book holds.
