P.S. I Love You Day

February 14, 2020

This year, P.S. I Love You day is Friday, February 14. It is celebrated on the second Friday of February. Brooke DiPalma started P.S. I Love You Day in 2010 in memory of her father who committed suicide. She hopes that the day will inspire people to look out for the mental health of themselves and others. It is also meant to spread suicide awareness. We celebrate P.S. I Love You Day in Williamson to encourage people to be kind to others. (We should be doing this every day, but sometimes we need a reminder, especially in the sluggish month of February.) As you wear your purple, evaluate your mental state and try to make the people in your life happy. A small act of kindness could save someone's life. A simple smile could make someone's day.

Here are the inspirational videos that were shown in forum for mental health week.

No One Eats Alone Day

February 11, 2020

On February 14th, 2020, it will be National No One Eats Alone Day. According to Google, No One Eats Alone is a lunchtime school event that seeks to reverse the trends of social isolation by asking students to engage in a simple act of kindness at lunch – making sure that no one is eating alone and students are making an effort to eat with new classmates and peers. There are activities like writing positive messages on paper leaves or paper hearts and sticking them on the paper tree. The main goal of this holiday is to speak to a person you wouldn't normally speak to and get to know them. No One Eats Alone Day is all about spreading kindness where it is needed, so grab a seat and chat with a stranger and see what possibilities can come of it.

Watch the video to see how one school transformed this day into a whole club that can forever change someone's life.

These games are free to play, however donations are accepted. The games are on WflSoftware.Itch.io and are available for download on windows. If you play them and want to donate or give feedback, you can contact Bailey Kelly at Bailey.Kelly@Williamsoncentral.org or donate directly on Itch.io. The games include Kombat At Killedash the demo, an adventure game where you complete a quest, and Momentous, a fun game where you are robot and run through a course. Fighting Social Injustice

January 20, 2020

Congratulations to Rodney Jones for winning the MLK Service award! Everyone who knows Rodney knows that he is worthy of this award. With his positive energy, warm smile, and kind demeanor, Rodney is loved by all. Rodney serves his community through the activities he does in the various clubs he participates in: Student Council, FBLA, GSA, and Environmental Club. In addition, he serves community members food at McDonald’s. He is the embodiment of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s qualities, especially integrity. Whenever there is social injustice, Rodney is sure to step in and stand up for the victim. He believes that it is important to encourage people to accept people of different races because “there is so much we can learn from people who are different from us.” Rodney strives to set an example of integrity for others to follow since doing so could set a “chain reaction of kindness.” He wants to encourage kindness in a world that is lacking it. Rodney wants everyone to know that, “If you have strong integrity, it will shine in everything you do; if you lack integrity, you will have nothing to show when it’s time to move on.”

Spanish Club Pulsera Project

December 11, 2019

Next week the Williamson High School Spanish Club will be partnering with the Pulsera Project, a fair trade non-profit organization that seeks to empower and educate people in Central America and the U.S. This organization provides sustainable work opportunities for nearly 200 artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala who make colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras,” in Spanish. The project then creates a market for their artwork by partnering with schools across the U.S.. Pulseras will be sold during lunch periods and spanish classes for $5, and proceeds will go towards scholarships for artisans and their families, housing programs, medical aid, health care, and secondary education programs. Not only can you purchase pulseras to support this amazing cause, but you can also send them to your friends and teachers! The Spanish Club will also be having a guest speaker from Nicaragua 10th period Tuesday, December 17th in room 3, followed by a Nicaraguan coffee tasting 10th period Thursday, December 19th also in room 3. Williamson Bee Club

By Madison LaMora - November 7, 2019

Queen Bee Beeyonce is making the news! The Williamson High School observatory beehive is the buzz around the town. Local newspaper The Wayne Post had an article about the beehive and our Bee Club. The club meets every Thursday in the library and everyone is welcome. The club is creating videos to teach the school about bees and help spread awareness. There are roughly 20 active members that come regularly. The club plans on designing and decorating around the hive and designing a garden for the bees. So far the bees are well and eating honey that they stored in the summer. Read the article from the paper here:

CLASS UPDATES

October 31, 2019

Senior

The senior class officers have been busy preparing for the senior trip to Virginia Beach. The officers want to make the trip as fun as possible, so let us know if you have any suggestions! We also had our first fundraiser of the year. Great work to everyone who sold! The order forms for caps and gowns are due Monday, November 4: make sure to hand them in during lunches. Keep up the great work, and remember that we are only eight months away from graduation!

-Ally Wieser, Senior Class President

Junior

Our class has a lot of exciting events to plan in these next couple of months. We've begun prom and senior trip planning; we're eager to have it all completed. We also finished our Yankee Candle fundraiser which is still going through online orders. Overall, our junior class has a lot of exciting things to look forward to.

-Sophia Konstantinou, Junior Class President

Sophomore

The sophomore class has had one meeting where fundraisers and future plans were discussed. Soon, we will be passing out sheets in forum for our first fundraiser, the produce sale. Last year we also sold produce, so we talked about adding fruits and vegetables that would be more appealing. As fall sports are coming to a close, we are preparing to work the concession stand during the boy’s basketball games. As a class, we were assigned to sell the snacks. A list was created with new choices that were recommended by students and staff. As the largest class in our district, it is really important for us to get more of our peers involved in fundraising and events. My fellow officers and I are trying to learn more about what motivates people to sell and want to do more activities as a class. We are very eager to see how this year plays out for the sophomore class!

-Morgan Comstock, Sophomore Class President

Freshman

The freshman class started our first fundraiser and has many more amazing ideas for the future. For our first fundraiser, we sold Schutt’s doughnuts. We are planning on selling Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters coffee and chocolate bunnies from the Candy Kitchen later this year. The profit each student makes from their fundraising will go towards their senior trip expenses. The money we make as a class will go towards exciting events in our Junior and Senior years like prom and the senior trip. At our first class meeting, we talked about how important fundraising is and all of the responsibilities our class officers have. It is great having a voice and working with such a dedicated team to make our class successful.

- Alexa Governor, Freshman Class President
