Run Away

February 10, 2020

By Mina Talma

If I could run away

Would you come with me?

Would you take me far away?

Are you fast enough

To out run my pain?

How many miles would we have to ride

To mend my aching heart?

How far is far enough?

If I could just ride away

I would choose to go with you

We could go so very far away.

But instead I say goodbye

To this childish fantasy.

I find solace in you,

While you eat your hay

And dream of better days.

Congratulations to the Matilda Cast!!!

The School Story

By Gryphon Akridge

Chapter 1: The School

I pulled up the hood of my hoodie and got off the school bus. I took out my phone to check the time. It was 7:10. I put my phone back in my pocket and opened the door. It is my freshman year of high school.

I can't wait to see my friend. Ash is the only real friend I have. Ash was at his locker and was putting his coat away it was a cold day for August.

Ash has been my friend for as long as I could remember he is funny kind and loyal he has blond hair and brown eyes. He is almost always in shorts and a hoodie. Ash is one of my closest friends.

“Hey, Kiran how was your summer?” Ash asked me with a smile.

“It was good, how about your summer?” I asked.

“Mine was amazing dude!” he said.

“So what is our first class?” I asked

“I don't know, I think we have to go to forum but we can walk around the school for a while if you want,” Ash said.

“Sounds good,” I asked as I started walking.

Ash followed me down the hallway.

“Kiran you excited?” he asked.

“I guess,” I said.

I walked past a group of kids in the hallway. I try not to get near them because I don't want a repeat of last year. Last year one of the kids in our class died. I killed him, but I didn't mean too. Ever since then everyone tries to stay away from me. He just stopped breathing when it happened. Then he died because of me. At least that is what I thought. I haven't been able to figure out why it happened.

“Kiran, you ok?” Ash snapped me out of my memory.

“I ́m fine,” I said lying. It's become easy to lie to Ash. He usually looks for the best in people.

“Ash let's head back to forum,” I said.

”Welcome to forum,” said the principal “today we will have a school tour lead by our star student Carmen Winter.”

“Welcome students, I will be taking you on your tour,” she said.

Carmen led the students out of Forum and started walking down the hallway. She stopped at a door that had a do not enter sign in front of it. The door had this strange energy about it. I got goosebumps.

“What's wrong with that door?” I asked under my breath.

“Now you must never go in there,” Carmen said pointing to the door. “Are there any questions?”

Ash raised his hand, “Why can't we go in there?”

“Go in and find out,” she said.

Ash started to put his hand on the door. He flew back against the lockers with a crash.

“That's why you don't touch the door“ Carmen said.

“Hey Carmen, leave him alone,” I said.

“I would stay out of this death boy,” Carmen said.

I hated that nickname. It felt like a burden. I let my emotions get the better of me. Next thing I knew, she fell to the floor breathing heavily and coughing up blood. Ash punch me in the arm hard.

“Sorry, what?” I asked.

She got up from the floor and ran to the nurse's office. A new tour guide came out from the office. Ash and I lagged behind.

“Ash, do you feel that?” Kiran asked.

“Yeah, I think it's coming from the room,” I opened the door slowly but it didn't send me back flying. Inside there are a lot of machines and other things like empty test tubes. Ash closed the door behind us.

Chapter 2: the do not enter the room

Emotions

I don’t know how to tell you

I don’t think I can

I bottle my feelings up inside

Until I can’t any more

Your words and actions hurt me

You just don’t know it

I don’t dare to tell

And I don’t really show it

Nighttime Tears

Drops of blue are everywhere

They flood my mind and soul

Covering my face, refusing to go

I try to hold them back

But they continue to pour out

I don’t know how to stop them

But I wish I knew how

A Wolves’ Thanksgiving

November 21, 2019

By Devon Enright

The two wolves are playing hide and seek. Haden jumps out from behind a tree and lunges onto Angelica. “Haden,” Angelica calls. “I'm going to find you!” she yells out.

“Gotcha!” he says, as he kisses Angelica.

“Geez Haden, you need to warn me next time. You scared me!” Angelica says, getting up off the ground.

“Why are you so jumpy? Scared you're gonna be hunted by demons?” Haden says with a laugh.

“I already have a demon haunting me every day,” Angelica says with a laugh.

“Geez low blow angel face,” Haden says.

Haden and Angelica walk into town to buy a turkey.

“Hey, so I was thinking, maybe we would invite our families over for Thanksgiving,” Angelica says as she looks through the turkeys.

“I don't think that will be the best idea, you see, my family despises anyone good of heart. Our best bet is to just invite friends,” Haden says seriously.

By Citlali Alba and Sarah Goodenough - October 31, 2019

A taste of Mexico coming near you! On November the 2nd, there will be a new Mexican restaurant next to the Valero right here in Williamson. The restaurant is called “Cocina Hidalgo” and is owned by my family. We serve authentic Mexican food, such as tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, and more! All of these wonderfully delicious meals come at great prices that won’t hurt your wallet! Although we don’t provide specific vegetarian meals, you can make a veggie tortilla, so there are options for almost everyone. Our hours are Monday through Friday from 10am to 7pm and 9am to 2pm on Saturday. We’re closed on Sundays. We do offer in restaurant seating as well as take out options. You can dine in or take out. We have five tables for you to sit at. The owner, Maria Uribe, grew up in a small town in Mexico called Hidalgo, which is where the name “Cocina Hidalgo” comes from. She wanted to share her food and see people enjoy it; cooking is her passion. She has always dreamt of starting her own restaurant, and now she finally gets to live her dream.
