Williams has so many interesting clubs and organizations, check them out!! Pursue your Passion!!
We are a student run dance group founded in 2006, that covers dances and genres from Folklorico to Salsa, and from Dembow y Reggeaton to Bachata y Merengue, and many more. Our team works together to put on an amazing showcase of all our hard work through costumes and dance towards the end of each semester. If you have a passion for creative expression and dance, this is the club for you! We encourage people of all backgrounds and identities to try out for our team!
The Octet is an all-male acapella group--the college's oldest, founded in 1940. We love to hang, eat, hang, and sing, in that order. In becoming part of the Octet, you aren’t just joining a singing group—you’re joining a family of guys that you’ll have for the rest of your life. It's a commitment: we meet 3 times a week, but being together never feels like work. If you're a dude and like to sing, come audition! Make sure to check out our Insta (@thewilliamsoctet), our album, and our website.
In Kusika, we practice and perform dance, music, and storytelling. Kusika, which means “to create” in the language of the Shona people, finds inspiration rooted in tradition and innovation, studying art throughout the African continent and the African diaspora. We have worked with our faculty directors, guest artists, and our peers from other performance groups. We are so excited to meet the incoming Class of 2024 and invite you all to audition to join our family! We meet around twice a week; no experience is necessary.
We are a sketch comedy group that writes live and filmed comedy sketches, performed at the end of each semester. We also have standup comedy events and other related events throughout the year.
The Student Choreographers’ Coalition (StuCho) was formed as an outlet for dancers at Williams to choreograph, rehearse, and perform together. StuCho dancers rehearse and perform in original pieces created by students. StuCho choreographers are welcome to invite any non-StuCho dancers to participate in their piece(s) if they so choose.
The Williams Musician's Association sponsors non-departmental musical performances from student singer-songwriters and bands. WMA organizes several coffeehouses, concerts, and events to give opportunities for student musicians to experience live performances and connect with other musicians. The goal is to bring students together to strengthen the music community and to provide a network for musicians to grow in a creative environment.
The Freshman Revue, adorably dubbed "FRosh Revue" by the common man is a mysterious gathering of first years. Once a year, they crawl out of the ether and put on a show during Williams' Family Days. Of course, some years do not go as planned and, well, all we can do is laugh at our misfortunes like good children do. Improv comedy is our name and a scripted show is our game. If you've got a gag reflex and wanna hang out with some cool cats, this may be just the place for you.
Ephoria (est.1979) is the oldest female-voiced a capella group at Williams. We were established shortly after women were admitted into Williams, and have been singing in the Purple Valley ever since! Ephoria meets weekly (and not just for rehearsals! We love having dinner dates and doing other fun things together), and we perform songs across all genres. We encourage anyone who identifies as female-voiced to audition, whether your talent is in singing, arranging, or beatboxing. Joining Ephoria is a connection you will have for life, and we can't wait to welcome new members into our little community on campus!
Zambezi is a Zimbabwean-style marimba band directed by Tendai Muparutsa that performs both traditional and pop music! We also play a variety of genres ranging from jazz to dance. You can check out some of our past performances on YouTube (just search 'Zambezi Marimba Band'). Zambezi is also a cross-department group, performing with the music and dance department!
No musical experience is required!
Cello Shots is a cello ensemble that arranges and covers popular songs of all musical genres (mostly pop, r&b, and rock). We rehearse 2-3 times a week and hang often. Anyone who plays cello and can read music is welcome to join!
Jazz at Williams is a collection of student musicians and music lovers who are interested in pursuing/enjoying live jazz and jazz-influenced music on and off campus. In the past we've hosted jam sessions and listening sessions, sponsored trips to see live music in NYC, and brought guest artists to campus for performances and masterclasses. This year we hope to create some playing opportunities (if restrictions permit), in addition to providing virtual listening and masterclass opportunities.
We are Williams' one-and-only all Disney a cappella group. We are a non-audition group, which means we provide a safe and open space for all to sing and have fun, especially beginners! We rehearse twice a week for a total of 3 hours and perform 2 concerts a year. We're also a social group that loves to hang out, have meals, and do fun Disney-themed activities including movie nights, scavenger hunts and game nights. Contact kem3 for more info or come to our open rehearsal! Hope to see you soon!
We are the oldest continuous all-gender a capella group on campus! We sing songs from all genres, and perform across campus and the Berkshire area!
The Springstreeters have been singing a cappella and melting hearts in the Purple Valley since 1980. The group rehearses weekly and performs at Williams, community events and other colleges. We love making music, but more importantly we love each other. We really still have no idea what we’ve gotten ourselves into. All male identifying and non-binary people are encouraged to audition! Don’t forget to check us out on social media (@springstreeters) or at our website (thespringstreeters.com)
We are the Williams Concert Choir. We are dedicated to making great music through a collaborative choral community. We'll be exploring an array of repertoire, vocal techniques, and building individual musicianship. Come sing with us!
The Accis are a female/nonbinary-identifying a cappella group. We arrange, rehearse, and perform a wide range of music, and typically perform with other groups in the a cappella community at Williams and at other nearby colleges and universities. We share a love for music regardless of our musical experience before Williams, and no matter what we do or where we go, we always have fun together!
We are one of two improv groups on campus, but are definitely the most fun! We do a variety of short form and long form improv, so what are you waiting for?? check us out at our auditions this fall!
¡Vive! organizes and performs music pertaining to the Latinx diaspora with the vocal and instrumental skills of a diverse group of students. We will arrange and learn music as a group and invite the community to be a part of our work, a collaborative exchange of ideas and musical experiences. Open to everyone regardless of knowledge of latin music. No need to know Spanish, the only requirement is enthusiasm!
We are Good Question A Cappella, better known around campus as GQ! (the magazine hasn't responded to our trademark infringement claim) We're an all-gender a cappella group that's a little different from other groups in that we don't audition for solos. Everyone will get a solo or duet at least once a year, and most importantly you get to bring in the song you want to sing! Incoming members are guaranteed a solo in their first semester. We hope to see you at auditions!
Founded in 1986, the Williams College Gospel Choir (better known as GC) is a non-audition student performance group dedicated to song and prayer in the Christian Gospel tradition. Proud to be one of the College's most diverse student organizations, GC is a community that welcomes people of all faiths, talents, and backgrounds. In addition to a large concert held each semester, GC often performs at events in and around the Berkshires. Join us anytime for worship, prayer, or just a little love!
Williams Fireflies is dedicated to supporting and expanding the flow arts community on campus. Join us if you want to try your hand at glowstringing, staffing, and more! We meet weekly to learn and teach skills in a chill, safe environment, and for those interested in showcasing their abilities, we plan to have performances once things get back to normal.
Welcome to ADT! We are a student-led club that enjoys dancing, specifically to pop music from Asia! Previously, we have mainly learned and performed K-Pop dances, but we are open to all kinds of songs throughout the area. It’s important to note that we are a non-audition based dance group on campus, so if you have no previous dancing experiences, this is the group for you!
We hope you can join us and check out our submission in the virtual Jamboree for a little more insight into our club!
Purple Rain is an all-gender a cappella group which provides students at Williams with the opportunity to sing and perform R&B, soul, hip hop, and related genres through the medium of a cappella. Our group aims to advance the values of accessibility and diversity at Williams by promoting often underrepresented voices and underperformed genres.
Cap & Bells is a student theatre club that provides student directors, designers, actors, playwrights and stage managers with the opportunity to produce their own plays for the Williams campus and the Berkshire community. Works performed run the gamut from Shakespeare, Stoppard, and Sondheim (Williams class of ’50!) to original student-written work.
Every Cap & Bells show is produced, directed, designed, performed, and run exclusively by Williams students.
Sankofa, Williams’ only step team, was founded by five women of color in 1996 from the Class of 2000. Stepping is a percussive dance form created by black fraternities in the mid 1900s. Sankofa translates to “reach back and get it” from Akan. Sankofa used this concept to reach back in order to step forward, reflecting on the organization’s mentality. Our original material incorporates popular song, drums, hip-hop, break dance, spoken word, poetry, and sheer creative ingenuity.
CoDA is Williams' contemporary dance company, focusing primarily on modern and ballet techniques. We have two faculty directors, Erica Dankmeyer and Janine Parker, who lead rehearsals and choreograph works for performance. CoDa auditions are scheduled for 4pm on Sat. Sept. 11! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to company TAs Lucy Walker (Lrw4@williams.edu) or Ashley Xu (azx1@williams.edu)! We hope to see you there!
Handbells are pretty cool, you should try them out! We practice for a couple hours each week and perform once a semester. The group is open to anyone, regardless of musical experience—we will teach you everything you need to know. All in all we're pretty friendly and would love to meet you!
We’re funny. You’re funny. What could go wrong? Find out by signing up for Combo Za, Williams’s oldest and cutest improv comedy troupe. We do short form, long form, and even medium form comedy (but only if you can answer our riddles three). And it’s stupid fun. Auditions are the week of September 13th. All are welcome. No experience required. Socks required.”
